Tony Curtis, Oscar nominated actor and Hollywood royalty, has died at the age of 85.
Curtis was nominated for an Oscar in 1958 for his work in The Defiant Ones with Sidney Poitier. He was also known for his roles in Some Like It Hot, The Boston Strangler, and Spartacus. He starred alongside Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot, whom he dated for several months.
“My father leaves behind a legacy of great performances in movies and in his paintings and assemblages,” actress Jamie Lee Curtis said in a statement Thursday. “He leaves behind children and their families who loved him and respected him and a wife and in-laws who were devoted to him. He also leaves behind fans all over the world. He will be greatly missed.”
What most people don’t know about Tony Curtis, is that he served in the Navy during World War II, and was known for his portrait paintings later in his life.
Tony Curtis is survived by five of his children, and of course, his legacy as a man and actor.
