Television executives are trying to spice up by producing a 90-minute Spice Girls documentary that will be time with the pop group’s new musical, “Viva Forever!.” For any woman who grew up in the 90s, this is breaking news!
Despite it being well over a decade since the British superstars broke-up, the film intends to be a tell-all and inside look at the Spice Girls’ rise to fame. Interviews with each of the girls will also be included in the documentary.
Don’t get too excited yet. The entire project is dependent on whether or not Victoria Beckham, formerly known as Posh Spice, will agree to the deal. According to the Guardian, the last time a Spice Girls documentary was in the works, Bechkham did everything in her power to block the film from airing on U.K. television in 2001.
The group has not performed together since 2008 and according to Metro, Beckham’s reluctance may have been why the Spice Girls did not perform at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert. Whether or not the documentary will be made is still up in the air but the Spice Girls inspired musical seems much more promising.
Absolutely Fabulous star Jennifer Saunders will be involved as the writer and Mamma Mia! producer Judy Cramer as executive producer. The musical title Viva Forever! not go directly into the lives of the women that inspired it but will explore themes of womanhood and friendship.
The musical has already been praised by Emma Bunton, a.k.a. Emma Spice, who called the romantic comedy musical “amazing.” Bechkham, Mel B., and Mel C. have all reportedly been in touch with producers as well so I’m sure there will be more Spice Girls news to come.
