(PCM) It was an incredibly tense atmosphere at the recent Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C., especially when it came down to only having two contestants left in the competition.
One judge, however, proved to have quite the creative sense of humor when he quoted the famous “Milkshake” song by Kelis when asked by a contestant to demonstrate the use of a word in a sentence.
The word was “Feijoada” and when the contestant Sriram Hathwar requested the word be used in a sentence the judge replied “Tabitha discovered that while her milkshake brought all the boys to the yard…oh, boy, wrong sentence”. The audience erupted with laughter, however we are guessing that it went over Hathwar’s head since he would have only been 3 years old when the song was released.
For those that may be actually wondering Feijoada is according to Wikipedia.com is a stew of beans with beef and pork, which is a typical Brazilian dish. Feijoada is also typically cooked in Portugal and former Portuguese colonies such as Macau, Angola, Mozambique and Goa, however the recipe can differ slightly from one country to another.
Hathwar did go on to tie for the win of the Spelling Bee with Ansun Sujoe.
