(PCM) To report some rather unfortunate news, it has recently been reported that the Hostess company, maker of Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Yodels snack cakes is going out of business. The news comes after the company filed a claim with U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeking permission to shut-down its operations. The move comes after the company said striking workers across the country crippled its ability to maintain production.
So much for Twinkie’s lasting through the apocalypse?
The news means the loss of nearly 18,500 jobs with employees at the companies 33 factories being sent home and all baking operations being suspended. It is stated that the company’s nearly 500 bakery outlet stores will remain open for a few more days in an attempt to sell off any remaining products.
The move to shut-down operations occurred as a result of thousands of members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union going on strike last week after rejecting a contract offer that severely cut down wages. The bakers union represents about 30 percent of the company’s workforce.
Get out and get those Twinkies, Devil Dogs, and more while you still can!
