(PCM) The Pope’s Harley Davidson motorcycle recently fetched $284,000 dollars at a charity auction. The proceeds will benefit renovating Caritas Rome’s Don Luigi di Liegro hostel as well as the soup kitchen at the Termini railway station in Rome.
The 2013 Harley-Davidson FXDC Dyna Super Glide was gifted to the Pope by the legendary bike maker to celebrate the company’s 110th birthday. The 1,585 cc bike earned nearly twenty times its’ value at the auction.
The Pope also auctioned off a leather motorcycle jacket also gifted from Harley Davidson which sold for around $68,000. Bonhams, the company who assisted with running the auction, were incredibly pleased with both the publicity and the results that this auction has generated.
Both items were signed personally by the Pope and have never been used. The winner of the auction has not yet been identified and the winning bid was processed via phone. On top of the $284,000 dollars paid for the bike the winner will still have to pay yet another nearly $40,000 dollars in auction cost. This auction marks the highest price that at a Harley has sold for at auction.
