(PCM) PETA’s Lettuce Ladies, women who are clad only in a lettuce leaf bikini, recently made a stop at the Nicolett Mall in Minneapolis, MN to serve mall patrons with hot cocoa and urge to consider the benefits of switching to a vegan lifestyle.
The Lettuce Ladies braved the subzero temperatures outside the mall, donned in only the bikini’s, scarves, ear muffs and smiles. In addition to cocoa, there were handing out pamphlets and touting signs that read “Turn Over A New Leaf: Go Vegan” above the PETA logo.
Lettuce bikini volunteer Lindsay Rajt claimed that the pair were aptly prepared for the weather. “It was actually my idea to organize this demonstration to encourage people to go vegan. No one is forcing me to be out there.” She said precautions they’re taking include hand warmers and sensible boots. She went on to explain that she wished exposing deplorable conditions in factory farms were enough to get people to consider a vegan lifestyle, but “we have to work a little bit harder to get their attention.”
“I’ve stood as the snow came down while wearing just a bikini, and while it may sound cold, we’ve endured even colder temperatures and always survived,” said Rajt. “At the end of the event, we’ll be healthy and looking forward to the next one.”
PETA claims that now is the best time ever to make the switch to a vegan diet, as there is an abundance of delicious vegan choices for food now available and there’s never been a better time to make the switch to a kinder, gentler, healthier diet.
PETA staged a similar campaign last February at the same mall with volunteers, however in that case it was to protest the use of fur.
