Nick Jonas, the youngest member of the pop phenomenon the Jonas Brothers, is set to return to Broadway next year when he joins the Broadway production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in the lead role of J. Pierrepont Finch, currently played by Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe.
And yes, we did say return. Nick, 18, is no stranger to the Broadway stage and already has quite the musical theater resume. He’s had roles in productions of “A Christmas Carol,” “Annie Get Your Gun,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Les Misérables” both in 2003 as Gavroche and again in 2010 as Marius for the 25th Anniversary run in London. Just last month, Nick also performed in Hairspray as Link Larkin.
Nick’s run will begin on January 24, 2012 after Glee’s Darren Criss finishes his three-week performance of the role from January 3 – 22, 2012. Radcliffe, who originated the role in March, will leave the production on January 1, 2012. Nick’s stay will go through July 1, 2012.
But never fear, this doesn’t mean the end of the Jonas Brothers. After tweeting the return to Broadway announcement, Nick tweeted to a fan, “The three of us are so thrilled to support each other in our individual projects knowing we’ll come back together again one day!”
In the meantime, we agree with Tony and Emmy Award winner Rob Ashford, the director and choreographer of How to Succeed, when he said “It’s good news for bringing young people to the theater.” Whether it’s Daniel Radcliffe, Darren Criss, or Nick Jonas… they certainly all have the appeal to draw people in. It’s quite the opportunity for us all.
