(PCM) Although Chick-Fil-A is the normal fast-food restaurant, they follow certain principles that the others have thrown out the window. They are closed every Sunday and last week the President, Dan Cathy, said the fast-food giant was “guilty as charged” of supporting “the biblical definition of the family unit”. This bold announcement encouraged the Muppets to immediatly end the partnership.
The Muppets have been working with Chick-Fil-A to create products for their kids’ meals. The additions included five build-your-own puppets from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, using pieces that are punched out from the plastic meal container. They included the loveable characters of Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. But the Muppets couldn’t disagree more with Chick-Fil-A’s statement, so they posted the following on their public facebook page: “The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over 50 years and we have notified Chick-fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO, is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-fil-A to GLAAD” (an advocacy group for lesbian, gay and transgender people).
In response to the Muppets facebook post, Chick-Fil-A posted that they “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender” on their facebook page. Chick-Fil-A has received some backing for their statement. Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate thought the attacks against the company were unneccessay, and went so far to attempt to declare Aug. 1 “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.”
In the end, Chick-Fil-A decided to “leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena” and refrain from “proactively being engaged in the dialogue” on the subject.
