Last week, Hasbro revealed an obviously thinner Mr. Potato Head at the 2011 International Toy Fair. The new potato wil lbe called Active Adventure Potato Head and for the first time, has pants!
Many critics question Hasbro’s skinny spud saying that the company is following the “make slim beautiful” idea of American culture, instead of promoting an active lifestyle for children. Hasbro is hoping that parents will see the new design as promoting activity and not as a statement about beauty.
Mr. Potato Head’s first stint as a health spokemans was in 2005 when the U.S. Potato Board chose him as the spokesperson for their “Healthy Mr. Potato Head” campaign. During that year, he participated in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade promoting the health benefits of himself and other potatoes.
What probably helped Mr. Potato Head lose the weight was the support from his spouse, Mrs. Potato Head whohas also been seen sporting a new slim figure lately.
