(PCM) I truly think these Kickstarter campaigns are the true wave of the future, especially when it comes to financing everyone’s dream projects. The power of the internet and social media never cease to amaze me!
In only twelve hours, actor LeVar Burton was able to reach his goal of raising $1 million dollars the Reading Rainbow campaign. Burton put together the Kickstarter campaign to help raise the funds to revise the hit PBS series Reading Rainbow of which he was both the creator and the host. Now that Burton’s $1 million dollar goal was met, he will be able to create a web-based version of Reading Rainbow, as well as, create a classroom version for teachers and provide free access to the program for underfunded schools.
Burton’s Kickstarter campaign offered some pretty sweet perks that came along with each of the various donation levels some of which included the opportunity to wear Burton’s “Star Trek” visor, Reading Rainbow app subscriptions, autographed memorabilia, a dinner date with Burton and a chance to appear in a video field trip.
Burton’s Reading Rainbow Kickstarter campaign had until July 2nd to reach its’ $1 million dollar goal, but once it began buzzing via social media people began donating in droves.
Burton posted the following message on his Facebook page once the goal had been met:
“Y’all are INCREDIBLE! Together, we are over 22,000 people strong, and have hit our first goal of $1M on Kickstarter in less than 12 hours. Stay tuned because this is just the beginning!”
