Twilight star Kristen Stewart has been cast as Snow White in the upcoming 2012 film, Snow White and the Huntsman. The 20-year-old will be trading in her converse sneaks and zip-up hoodies to play a princess who is the “fairest of them all.”
Snow White and the Huntsman is a modern update on the Brothers Grimm tale; it is directed by Rupert Sanders and written by Evan Daugherty. The movie is currently in pre-production and has a scheduled release date of December 21 in the United States. So far, Charlize Theron is slated to play the evil queen Ravenna and Viggo Mortensen will play the huntsman.
The plot surrounds Snow White who is an 18-year-old princess targeted for death by her bitter stepmother, a fate she avoids thanks to Eric, a huntsman out for vengeance against the queen. Prince Charming, named Charmant in the script, eventually comes along to kiss the apple-poisoned Snow. Even though he is her first love, she has fallen for the huntsman.
There are many factors that would lead one to believe this is a perfect role for the actress who played the iconic Bella in the Twilight series. Stewart does have the pale complexion and dark hair to help her emulate the Disney princess. And, she is conveniently playing Snow White during the height of her success.
But, mirror mirror on the wall, is Kristen Stewart really the fairest one of them all… to play this lead role as Snow White? Although she is used to playing a fair-skinned vulnerable teen, I can’t help feeling the only time she should spend in the woods is being a spider monkey with Robert Pattinson.
