(PCM) We would very much like to file this story in the say it isn’t so category, however Mattel has revealed their new line of more modernized Ken dolls and they now feature everything from man-buns to dad bods! We hope Barbie enjoys the new looks a little better than we do, however we do agree that it was due time for her long-time boyfriend to get a little revamp. The Ken doll was first introduced back in 1961 and while the dolls have gone through a few changes over the years, none have been quite as drastic as this one. Well, maybe when he and Barbie broke-up back in 2004, but that is another story! The pair are definitely back on-again now and have been steady since 2011!
Mattel is trying to promote a more diverse look for Ken and the new dolls will be available in three different body types which are slim, broad and original and also feature seven different skin tones. Customers can also now choose between eight different hair colors, nine hair styles (including the dreaded man-bun) and clothing for the dolls ranges from athletic to business casual.
The newly redesigned Ken dolls are available now at toy retailers and the company claims that they will be unveiling five more Ken dolls before the end of the year. These new Ken dolls are part of Mattel’s Fashionistas line which also features redesigned Barbie dolls. The new line of Barbie dolls launched back in 2016 and feature more diverse body types, skin tones and hairstyles to further promote body positivity and inclusion for all young women.
In a statement regarding the new Ken dolls Mattel said, “We are redefining what a Barbie or Ken doll looks like to this generation”. What do you think of Ken’s new style? The internet is going crazy with comments with many just taking a few minutes to roast the “man-bun” Ken, but do you really blame them?
Does man bun Ken doll also come with a Soul Cycle membership, vintage record player, and $50,000 in student loan debt? pic.twitter.com/ulEwGSxxb1
