Trekkies can rest easy tonight, as JJ Abrams has reportedly agreed to return as director for Star Trek 2.
Abrams, who directed the recent sci-fi hit “Super 8” has been meeting with writers (including fellow Lost alum David Lindelof) to start work on the Star Trek script.
However fans may be sad to hear that the film will not make it’s release date deadline of next summer. Instead, G.I. Joe 2 will take it’s place, and Star Trek may not hit theaters until late 2012 or summer 2013.
The original cast, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana are all set to reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel.
