It is confirmed that James Spader will be the new boss on “The Office,” just not the boss you’re thinking. The job that is famously up for grabs is the Regional Manager of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch, Michael Scott’s (Steve Carrell) old position. However, Spader will not be taking that position.
People will remember Spader on the season finale of “The Office” as Robert California, a candidate for Scott’s job described by executive producer and series regular Paul Lieberstein as an “uber-salesman that has a power to convince and manipulate, like a high-class weirdo Jedi warrior.”
Spader will take the position of CEO of Sabre, the parent company of Dunder Mifflin. Lieberstein told Access Hollywood that Robert California was “hired over the summer as the new manager, but within hours, got himself
promoted. Within days, he took over the company.”
This news certainly makes the next season of “The Office” sound more interesting than critics were predicting after the departure of Steve Carrell.
