J.K. Rowling may be finished with writing about the wizarding world, but the magic of her writing is far from gone. It was announced today that the hugely popular author has inked a deal with Little, Brown in the United States and Britain to publish her first novel for adults.
While the title, release date and further details about the novel are being withheld until later in the year, this news gives great hope and excitement to both the literary world and those of us Potterheads who will never leave the wizarding world behind. Soon enough we will be entering another world and incredible story concocted by Rowling. But it won’t be a Harry Potter replica.
“Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series,” Rowling said in a statement.
That won’t be the only change for Rowling either, seeing as this novel will be published by Little, Brown unlike the Harry Potter series, which was published by Bloomsbury.
“The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”
After the seventh and final Potter novel was released in 2007, speculation ran rampant as to what Rowling would pen next. While information about the novel is still largely kept a mystery, we can only imagine her skill and imagination will transition seamlessly into the adult-reading world. After all, the Potter series may have been touted as children’s literature, but it is no secret that it attracted people of all ages.
The Potter popularity among people of all ages is evidenced everywhere, especially with the announcement today as Twitter is taken over by Rowling hashtags and trending topics. Even the Dark Lord himself has acknowledged the news, tweeting “Yes, it’s true. Much like her hero Voldemort, JK Rowling will return after years. Greater & more powerful than ever before. #RowlingReturns”
So whether you consider yourself an honorary member of the wizarding world or you just love to read, there is definite cause for celebration! #RowlingReturns!
