A storm has damaged the iconic Ohio oak tree that played a key role at the end of 1994’s “The Shawshank Redemption.” In the film, that very oak tree is where Morgan Freeman’s character Red finds money and a note left by Tim Robbins’ character Andy Dufresne.
But now, the oak tree, which has served as a sentimental stop for “Shawshank” fans, faces total destruction after being hit Friday by straight-line winds that split it down its rotted middle and took out one side.
The tree is on private farmland and the owners of the property have yet to announce if they plan to remove the tree entirely. Stay strong, “Shawshank” fans. After all, “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.”
