The future is here. Well, futuristic shoes from the year 2015 at least. That’s right! Nike is finally releasing a limited edition replica of the shoes Marty McFly wore when he traveled to 2015 with Doc Brown in Back to the Future II.
In the movie, the Nike MAG sneakers glow and lace themselves. While the replicas will not lace themselves up, they will feature glowing LED panels that last for five hours per charge along with an electroluminescent Nike logo on the straps. Cool, right?
Unfortunately, cool is limited. Nike is only releasing 1,500 pairs of the Nike MAG, all of which will be auctioned on eBay. Now through September 18, 150 pairs of the sneaks will be put up for bidding each day, with most going at $5,000 or more… with some even passing $10,000 already.
While the price is certainly steep, Nike is giving 100% of the proceeds to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s disease research. And even better, the donations will be matched, effectively doubling the proceeds.
Only about 10 pairs of the shoes were made for the shooting of the film back in 1989. People have been waiting over 20 years to see these shoes brought to life and sold. So, here’s your chance! Happy bidding!
But before you do, enjoy this clip of the shoes in action!
