(PCM) Sports teams and corporate branding have always gone hand in hand, however some teams would rather not be associated with certain companies and that is exactly what happened when Burger King attempted to rename a small St. Petersburg soccer team.
The company received an absolutely hilariously response to their proposal that the Zenit team be renamed and change their logo to “Zenit Burger King” with Burger King offering to pay 500 million rubles (over $7.5 million) for the change. You would think for so many millions of dollars they would have come up with something a bit more creative, but nope!
WTF news story of the day – Burger King have offered Zenit €6.8m to change the team’s name to Zenit Burger King! pic.twitter.com/R9Awgs1T8B

The creativeness came with Zenit’s response to Burger Kings’s proposal which they shot down using an epic Game Of Thrones style smack down GIF. Guess they are truly not in it for the money! The team chose an infamous clip for the HBO series Game Of Thrones where the hateful Prince Joffrey is smacked across the face by fan favorite character, Tyrion Lannister. In the GIF Prince Joffrey’s head has been replaced by the Burger King face mascot. Ouch! Looks like they got the point!
