(PCM) The summer’s biggest blockbuster, Marvel’s The Avengers, may be adapted to fit on a smaller screen. Marvel and ABC are in talks to bring the superhero flick, which grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide to date, to a television near you, according to Deadline.com.
Any television series based on The Avengers must exist in a world created by the Marvel team, as seen in films like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. According to recent reports, the tv series would not necessarily have to feature the heroes previously mentioned, and may revolve around meta-humans we have yet to see up on the big screen.
Marvel has already flexed its world-expanding muscles, as evidenced on the Avengers Blu-ray extras in a short that stars Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford.
Obviously this is not the first time Marvel has attempted to bring its characters to television. At the ABC upfronts in May, Entertainment president Paul Lee stated that he wanted to bring the Hulk back to television airwaves.
Despite talks about a potential new series, television may not be ready for more superheroes. David E. Kelley attempted to reboot Wonder Woman back in 2011 but the series was not picked up by NBC. Maybe the Avengers will have more luck.
