Watching American Bandstand, then Soul Train on Saturday mornings and dancing like happy epileptics would be a great way to start the weekend. It was always after having a slumber party with a friend or cousin's house. Aretha Franklin singing "Rock Steady" could be the first one I remember-I was ready five and would hula-hoop like Alvin on speed. Does anyone remember "the Bump"? The Afro-Sheen commercials were so fly. Regardless of whether Don Cornelius's funeral is very private,I expect you will have a memorial/tribute show for him. Singers must be those who is capable of doing with dignity. It could be best to have those who appeared on Soul Train during its peak years. Any ideas, hussies?

Please inform me we didn't really look like that, dress like this, and dance like that? I swear I saw a guy who could pass for a sista, another Michael Jackson "don't stop til you will get enough" video clone, and Rhianna's mother (the chick with her hair right down to her ass dancing in some sort of baby doll lingerie outfit). Oh and I'm sure I saw a Rick James wannabe in there too. Pretty much everything before 10 each day!

Mooooooooooo.

:)

I didn't know what Rent was until I went to college; I was introduced to it sitting in my RA's room during a very informal movie night. As a straight-laced goody two shoes kid I had never heard of half of the things that happened in the movie. I believe that's the first time I really saw two guys kiss. At the time, I didn't know how to handle it. But when the film closed with that last scene, I had the feeling I had seen something really big, something that was important. Then I went to the music library and discovered the libretto.

The first time I came to New York, it was on a class trip to see La Boheme at the MET. The opera and the musical are both very close to my heart now; my dream is to become part of something bigger than myself. Thank you for indirectly reminding me of that.
