Think of Morrison’s story as Independent from all other writers. Damian’s death was not decided by DC comics, it was decided by the writer himself. DC spoiled the story to sell more, but the decision was not made based on marketing. If it had been a marketing decision, they would have probably given him his own comic LOOOONg ago, since the character is popular.
Damian’s death is the result of Talia’s war against Bruce, not death of the family. The 2 stories are independent.
