Remembering Michael Jackson

(PCM) Today marks five years since we lost one of the biggest music and pop culture icons of our generation, Michael Jackson.

Jackson died as a result of cardiac arrest on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50 and the world still continues to mourn the loss of this artistic genius. Say what you will about a lot of the controversy that surrounded his personal life, Jackson was a phenomenal musician and his artistic contributions will continue to define his legacy well into the future.

The coroner in the case ruled Jackson’s death a homicide and his personal doctor Conrad Murray was later found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Murray was released from jail last October after serving a two-year sentence.

Fans across the globe continue to enjoy Jackson’s music and there has even recently been previously unreleased material made a available with the album “Xscape” that was released back in May. The album features the single “Love Never Felt So Good” featuring Justin Timberlake.

Tributes to the fallen pop icon have been pouring in all over social media to commemorate the five year anniversary of his death and it further proves that the King of Pop’s spirit is still very much alive and well.

Famed Radio Personality Casey Kasem Dead At Age 82

(PCM) It has just been revealed that iconic radio personality Casey Kasem has passed away today at the age of 82. Kasem’s had been in ailing health for quite some time and had been hospitalized in Washington State for the past two weeks. Kasem was diagnosed with Lewy body disease, the most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer’s. According to a family member, Kasem’s  immediate cause of death was from sepsis caused by an ulcerated bedsore. There will be no autopsy planned as Kasem died in the hospital under doctors care. 

The news of Kasem’s death was released via a post made to Facebook from his daughter Kerri Kasem and later confirmed by his agent Don Pitts. According to Pitts, a memorial service will be held this Friday in honor of Kasem.

The following statement was released by Kasem’s representative which said ” Early this Father’s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends,” Kasem’s children — Kerri, Mike and Julie. Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken … The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad.”

Kasem and his family recently made headline’s after quite a nasty court battle between Kasem’s oldest children and his wife Jean over control of Kasem’s medical decisions and the right for them to even be allowed visitation with their father. Recently, Kasem’s daughter Kerri was granted temporary power of attorney over her father after Jean removed Kasem from a nursing home and moved him to Washington State.  Kasem was hospitalized after a fight between Kerri and Jean during which Jean threw raw meat at Kerri.

Kasem was the beloved host of “American Top 40″ the syndicated radio show, which counted down the 40 most popular songs in the United States based on Billboard magazine’s Hot 100 music chart. Kasem made for a wonderful host as his mannerisms were always upbeat and friendly and his demeanor incredibly warm.

Beloved Actress Ann B. Davis Has Died At Age 88

(PCM) Best known for her role as the lovable housekeeper Alice on The Brady Bunch, actress Ann B. Davis has suddenly passed away at the age of 88.

According to TMZ.com, Davis’ cause of death was due to a fall in the bathroom of her home. Sources claim that when she fell, she hit her head and never regained consciousness.

Her roommate claimed that Davis suffered no real health problems and that she even walked downstairs to say goodnight before heading to bed.

Davis portrayed the role of Alice Nelson for the entire length of The Brady Bunch original series which ran from 1969 to 1974. Over the years she has again revisited the role of Alice in multiple TV specials and reunion episodes of the series.

Davis was an active member of the church where she resided in Texas and there are currently funeral arrangements in the works.

Beloved Author And Poet Maya Angelou Has Died

(PCM) One of the world’s most beloved authors, poets, and civil rights activists Dr. Maya Angelou has sadly passed away today at the age of 86. Dr. Angelou’s body was discovered early this morning in her Winston-Salem, North Carolina home. The news of her passing was confirmed by Winston-Salem authorities and police did conduct an investigation of her home.

Dr. Angelou was humbly raised in a poverty-stricken environment and then over the years rose to the fame with the publishing of her first book “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” which became a best-seller and made Dr. Angelou the first African-American woman to write a best-selling novel.

Dr. Angelou was chosen at the poet to read at the inauguration of President Bill Clinton back in 1993, where she read her original composition “On The Pulse Of Morning” which also became a best-seller when published.

Dr. Angelou was born in Stamps, Arkansas on April 4th, 1928 and spent her youth living between Arkansas and San Francisco. It is rumored that she was sent to live in San Francisco after talking back to a white store clerk in Arkansas. She also refused to talk for several years after being raped by her mother’s boyfriend and it was during that traumatic time period that she learned to both read and write.

Dr. Angelou said that a woman took her to the black school library in their town and she read every book she could get her hands on, even if she could not yet understand the words. Dr. Angelou began writing poetry at the age of 9 and became a single mother at the age of 17.  Throughout her 20′s, she worked in a strip club, ran a brothel and married Enistasious Tosh Angelos (the first of her three husbands) which ended in divorce. 

In later year’s Dr. Angelou would go on to do work in theater where she coined her stage name Maya Angelou. She also did some work in both Egypt and Ghana where she met Malcom X and the two remained close friends until his assassination. Dr. Angelou also befriended Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and assisted him with planning are civil rights march in Memphis, TN. Tragically, Dr. King was killed on what was Dr. Angelou’s 40th birthday.

Dr. Angelou has appeared on television many times over the years and was featured in the 1977 miniseries “Roots”. She has earned three Grammy’s for her spoken-word albums and received an honorary National Book Award in 2013 for her writing.

During the last few weeks, Dr. Angelou had cancelled several public appearances including the MLB’s Beacon Award Luncheon where she was being honored and another event that was scheduled to take place last month in Arkansas due to health concerns.

Heartbreaking Photo Of A Young Boys Superhero Funeral Goes Viral

(PCM) Tragically, five year old Brayden Denton, lost his battle with a brain tumor and the incredible photos of his favorite superheros acting as the pallbearers for his casket has gone viral across the web.

Brayden passed away on May 8th and his mother could not think of a better way to celebrate his life than to give him a sendoff surrounded by the superheros he had enjoyed so much. His mother says that superheros were his whole world and it is definitely what he would have wanted for his funeral.

Brayden was lifted to his final resting place with the assistance of Batman, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Superman, Thor and his very favorite character of all time Spiderman.

Brayden was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of brain cancer that strikes children called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, or DIPG. The cancer kills 90% of children diagnosed with the disease within an 18 month time period. Brayden’s mother has donated his tumor to researchers in hopes that they will eventually find a cure.
