Internet Controversy Brews Around Upcoming Star Wars Film With One Group Calling For A Boycott

Star-Wars1

(PCM) It appears that nowadays next to nothing can be released without stirring up some sort of controversy including the trailer for the highly-anticipated film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.  One particular group of individuals were outraged when the trailer was released calling it “anti-white” and began to urge fans to boycott the film using the hashtag #BoycottStarWarsVII.

The group claims that the upcoming film is pushing a multicultural agenda and their ridiculous complaint is that it appears that none of the main protagonists are white males. The films leading stars are actress Daisy Ridley who is a woman, John Boyega who is black and Oscar Isaac is Guatemalan American. The group also goes as far as to claim that the film engages in “white genocide”.

Of course due to the controversial nature of the hashtag it immediately began trending via social media and unfortunately appeared to have a fair number of supporters. There were also others that used the hashtag to state their defense of the film and put this group of individuals in their place.

There is also another hashtag created by “Selma” director Ava Duvernay #CelebrateStarWarsVII as a way to support the film as well! According to USA Today, “the previous Star Wars films have included African-American actors in prominent roles, with Billy Dee Williams starring as Lando Calrissian, Samuel L. Jackson as Jedi Master Mace Windu and James Earl Jones voicing Darth Vader throughout the original trilogy.”
