(PCM) The hit series “Friends” may have gone off the air 11 years ago, but it will forever remain a staple in the history of pop culture. Hence, the reason why a clip which features a controversial deleted scene from the NBC series has now gone viral, racking up over 5 million views on YouTube.
The scene was from an episode of the series that was set to air just two weeks after the horrific 9/11 terrorist attacks and featured Monica and Chandler at an airport attempting to board a flight to their honeymoon destination, until Chandler makes a bomb joke in front of TSA agents and they both get hauled in for questioning. The scene was pulled and replaced with an alternate story-line where Monica gets jealous of another honeymooning couple.
While the original clip is hilarious it definitely could have been considered to be in bad taste after the 9/11 attacks, so it looks like the network made the right decision in changing up with story. In an intro for the deleted scene it is stated “As part of the history of the show, we hope that the scenes can now be viewed in the spirit which they were originally intended”. Judging by the sheer amount of views, it is safe to say that fans are understanding at this point. Check out the “Friends” deleted scene below:
