Disney Theme Parks Announce A Ban On Selfie Sticks

(PCM) Claiming that guest safety is their number one priority, Walt Disney World in Florida, Disneyland in California, as well as, Disney properties in Paris and Hong Kong have announced that they are banning the use of selfie sticks in their parks.

The new policy states that the selfie sticks will not make it any further than the bag check at any Disney World theme park. In Florida and California the new policy will go into effect on Tuesday and in Paris and Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Selfie sticks have become all the rage lately, as their purpose is to extend the reach of cell phone cameras to provide users with better cell phone images. According to a Disney World spokesperson, selfie sticks have become a growing safety concern for both guests and cast members.

The use of selfie sticks has become a bigger and bigger issue a the parks over the last year, so much so, that even rides such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space Mountain have signs posted that read “No Selfie Sticks Allowed”. Prior to the new policy taking effect, guests were verbally warned by cast members, however no they will no longer be allowed in the park at all.

If, during bag check, a selfie stick is discovered it will either be confiscated by a cast member at the gate to be picked up at a later time when leaving the park or it can be returned to either your vehicle or hotel room.
