Will Harriet Tubman Replace Andrew Jackson On The $20 Bill?

Harriet-Tubman1

(PCM) Earlier this year a poll was conducted for the unofficial “Women On 20s” campaign that garnered hundreds of thousands of votes to see a new face on the $20 dollar bill, specifically a female. The “Women on 20s” campaign plans to take their results to the U.S. Treasury Department and urge them to make the change and put a female face on the $20 dollar bill.

More than 100,000 people voted for abolitionist Harriet Tubman, who helped free slaves on the Underground Railroad, to be the new face on the $20 dollar bill, replacing 7th U.S. President Andrew Jackson. Also, in the running for a spot on the $20 dollar bill were First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who came in a very close second, and Civil Rights icon Rosa Parks.

If the U.S. Treasury Department pays attention to the “Women on 20s” petition and makes the change, it will be the first time in the nations history that a female face would grace paper money.  Once the “Women on 20s” group take the petition to The White House, the U.S. Treasury Department will make the final decision about whether or not a change will be made.

The “Women on 20s” group plans to continue their fight until, as they say “we are all holding a Harriet $20 dollar bill in our hands in time for the centennial of women’s suffrage in 2020”.
