Play Money Being Replaced By Real Money In Some French Monopoly Sets

Monopoly-money1

(PCM) In France, as a way to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the popular board game Monopoly, manufacturers are replacing the play money in the game with real money in the form of euros.

Eighty game sets will contain actual money. Ten of the sets will include five 20-euro notes, two 50-euro notes, and one 100-euro note. Another sixty-nine sets will include five 10-euro notes and five 20-euro notes.

The grand prize winning set will actually have all of the play money replaced with real money which equals out to the amount of $20,580 euros. We bet the lucky individual that gets that set will be thanking Uncle Pennybags all the way to the bank!

The game sets began rolling out to stores, only in France, earlier this week. CNN contacted Monopoly manufacturer Hasbro to ask whether or not we could be seeing any of the real money Monopoly sets released here in The States to celebrate the 80th anniversary, however they had not yet received a reply.

Some fun Monopoly facts to celebrate 80 years:

  •  The longest Monopoly game in history lasted for 70 days straight
  • Over 275 million sets have been sold worldwide. The game is available in 111 countries and in 43 different languages.
  • The character locked behind bars is named Jake the Jailbird and he was locked up by Officer Edgar Mallory.
  • Since 1935, over 1 billion people have played the game
  • San Francisco jeweler Sidney Mobell created the most expensive Monopoly board valued at over 2 million dollars.
