Bizarre Fish Pic Goes Viral

(PCM) It’s a giant floating marshmallow! It’s an iceberg! No, it’s an alien-like sea creature known as a Mola Mola, or ocean sun fish, and this one’s picture has taken the Internet by storm.

Among the many strange looking creatures that inhabit the waters of California, this giant Mola mola definitely takes the cake. These giant white sun fish have been seen in unusually high numbers this summer but what is most stunning is the quality of this photograph.

Mola molas are generally very cautious around humans and other unfamiliar species, so photographer Daniel Botelho considers himself very lucky to have snapped a photo of one of these gentle giants.

“There were more than five in the same spot but once I got in the water, as stealthily as I could, they all went out fast,” Botelho explained. “But one specific fish stopped to check what I was, and God knows why the fish decided to follow me. People in the boat said it seemed like a dog following his owner.”

Botelho took the photo over two years ago during an whale-watching trip and uncovered it while preparing for another excursion. The moment he posted the picture on his Facebook page, the Mola mola went viral.

“It got 1,000 ‘likes’ in 36 hours,” said Botelho, an award-winning photojournalist who specializes in underwater photography. Through Monday the number of likes and shares beneath had grown to 1,375 and 1,237, respectively.

The photograph is nothing short of remarkable, just like the Mola mola itself. These giant sun fish can grow up to 14 feet and weigh as much as 5,000 pounds. They’re found in tropical and temperate oceans but seem very alien-like.

Mola molas are sluggish creatures and feed primarily on jellies but will also eat squid and small fish. No need for deep sea submarines based on this photograph. Maybe James Cameron should look to shallower waters to find inspiration for his next mega-hit!

‘The Matrix’ Mastermind is the First Transgender Director in Hollywood

(PCM) Lana Wachowski, the director behind “The Matrix” and 2012’s highly-anticipated “Cloud Atlas” has become the first Hollywood director to come out as a transgender individual.

Wachowski revealed her transition while promoting her new film, according to the New York Post. Lana, formerly known as Lara, as been making the transition from a man to a woman for years now, although it is still unclear whether the director has undergone gender reassignment surgery.

The director has remained out of the public eye for years, making her first appearance since transitioning in a new clip promoting “Cloud Atlas.” Wachowski sports bright pink dreadlocks in the trailer and introduces the film alongside her brother.

Despite attempts to keep her personal life private, the director has been a source of headline fodder for years. A bitter divorce from wife Thea Bloom in 2002 and stories about Wachowski being a cross-dresser during the 2003 Cannes Film Festival have kept the director in the spotlight, for better or for worse.

Later in 2003the Gothamist reported on a column written by movie journalist Dave Poland, alleging that Wachowski was in the process of undergoing a “sex change”.

“Every indication I have says that Larry Wachowski is now in the process of changing his sex,” Poland wrote. “Dressing in public like a woman, taking female hormones and yes, having a sex change operation.”

Regardless of any controversy in the past, Wachowski seems very open of her transition today. Her new film is one of the most talked about of the year and hopefully the tabloids will focus more on her talent rather than her personal life.

Roller Coaster Strands Riders 150 Feet in the Air for Nearly 2 Hours

(PCM) First there was the freak accident on Kindga Ka when a young boy was hit in the eye by a bird, and now, a dozen people get stuck 150 feet in the air at the top of the Superman coaster?!  I guess roller coasters are suppose to be scary, after all.

According to ABC News, the Superman Ultimate Fight roller coaster stopped at the top of the ride at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Northern California, leaving 12 riders stranded 150 feet in the air for nearly 2 full hours. Thankfully, they were upright and not upside down, as the ride features multiple loops and side bends.

Firefighters arrived on scene half an hour into the accident, and were lifted up in a large bucket to reach riders so they could hand out water bottles. They were also prepared to take riders down in the bucket it the ride wouldn’t restart. Luckily, it did and no one was hurt.

Who Would You Call? Bieber-Gomez or the 2012 Olympic Swim Team!

(PCM) Carly Rae Jepsen you have done it again! The 26-year-old Canadian recording artist has put out quite the blockbuster this year with her smash hit, “Call Me Maybe.” Not only does it play on the top pop stations for every other song, but major celebrities are joining in on the madness too.

Similar to a vampire series, this song as taken over! It all started back when Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale, and Justin Bieber put out their video for the song. Not knowing who Jepsen was yet, I actually got confused on who the singer was for this song. I actually thought it was something that the three stars had produced.

Little did I know they were just having some fun, goofing off and lip-syncing to Jepsen’s playful masterpiece.

Fast forward months later, and now you have an Olympic team doing the same thing? I think this video is definitely more elaborate than the Bieber-Gomez original. This is also so impressive that the 2012 USA Olympic swim team not only knows this song and enjoys this song, but they made an entire YouTube video about it.

After viewing both videos, which one do you declare as your favorite Call Me Maybe rendition? And, which one do you wish you were in?

Fun New Thing for a Summer Sunday Night: Major League Soccer

I was in for a big surprise when I went to my first Major League Soccer game last night. I know a bit about soccer, but I never watch the games at home because I get bored. But I was far from bored at the game.
The biggest surprise of the evening was the “supporters” section. There is a big section at the end of the field filled with insanity, they sing and chant the entire game and never sit down. To sit in this section you have to be a member of a club. To become a member of the club, you have to prove that you know all of the chats and songs and pledge to never sit down. During the game there were people leading the chats, giving signs and pounding on drums. When I say they never stopped chanting, I am absolutly serious. They even all stood up and turned their back to the field when they introduced the opposing team.

The “supporters” section set the tone for the entire game. It felt almost like a college American football game with an enthusiastic student section. So, it was no surprise the excitement that exploaded when the home team scored a goal. Banners came over the supporters section and the entire stadium was jumping, cheering and singing for the team.  The fans certainly know how to have a good time.

And finally, everyone at the statium was so nice, curteous, helpful and polite. I have never gotten so many greetings and thank-you’s while leaving a sporting event. Overall it was a great experience. So check your closest city for a Major League Soccer game and enjoy some Sunday Night entertainment in the summer
