Australian billionaire Clive Palmer announced that he will be commissioning the construction of a high-tech replica of the Titanic at a Chinese shipyard that is scheduled to make its maiden voyage from England to New York in 2016. Only weeks after the 100th anniversary of sinking of the original vessel and the film 3D re-release of James Cameron’s Oscar-winning film, Palmer said he has signed a memorandum of understanding with state-owned Chinese company CSC Jinling Shipyard to build the Titanic II. Let’s hope Palmer is smart enough to include enough life boats this time. Over 1,500 people died when the original Titanic hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic during…Read more

A bitter dentist is now facing jail time after removing all of her ex-boyfriend’s teeth because, you guess it, he dumped her. Anna Mackowiak, 34, took revenge on her ex Marek Olszewski when he came in to her surgery with a toothache just days after leaving her for another woman. That’s a little insensitive, and stupid… She heavily sedated Olszewski, pulled out all his teeth, and wrapped his head with bandages he couldn’t open his mouth and see what she had done. The dentist, who works in Wroclaw, Poland, said: ‘I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions. ‘But when I saw him lying there I just…Read more

Not only are his works of literature the stuff of legends these days, but Edgar Allan Poe himself has become a legend in his own right. He may not be the drunkard and drug-addict that an enemy claimed he was in a largely false biography, but there is certainly enough mystery to make it most appropriate that he is best known for dark and macabre works of his own. I don’t know when my own love for Poe began. Perhaps it was when one of my teachers told the story of Poe getting thrown out of West Point on purpose, by means of coming to roll-call wearing nothing at all…Read more

Oh Betsey, say it ain’t so! The fashion industry received some semi-startling news yesterday after Betsey Johnson’s chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. As a result, more than 350 employees are expected to lose their jobs, with a majority of the 63 Betsey Johnson stores closing next month. Betsey said in a statement, “I feel so sad for my store people and all my pink girls. They live and die for me. But I need to be better. I really need to work well and be more efficient.” The company was bailed out by Steve Madden in 2010 after it defaulted on a $48 million loan, so unfortunately it was…Read more
This is the story of my close encounter of the Syfy Premiere kind. I arrived early. I was the only one covering this particular event and I’ll admit, I did feel a bit like a secret agent, taking notes, dressed up, sipping a cocktail; all i needed was a side kick or a cool get away car if the mission went south. I got my name tag and checked my coat. There wasn’t much to do yet since there was hardly anyone there to mingle with, so I decided to walk about, take some notes, and scope the space. The cocktail hour was to take place in theAmerican Museum of…Read more

On Wednesday evening, President Barack Obama stopped by the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Show and took some time out to “slow jam the news.” With house band The Roots playing some smooth beats in the background, Obama jammed about student loans and college tuition with a little help from Fallon. “You should listen to the President,” Fallon crooned. “Or as I like to call him, the Preezy of the United Steezy.” Check out the hilarious clip below. Well this is a first: A distracted teenage girl walking down the street on her cellphone was so caught up in her conversation that she didn’t notice the caution blocks on the sidewalk warning her of the sinkhole ahead. She walks right into it, plummeting 20 feet straight down into the ground. A cab driver passing by saw her fall into the hole and dove in after her! His act of bravery did not, however, pay off; the earth continued to crumble, trapping both of them underground. “I called out to her but she didn’t respond,” cabbie Wang Wei told the Telegraph. “After I shook her a little, she came…Read more
Audits abound this time of year, but that doesn’t mean they all have to be fun-sucking, day-ruining things and Trident is here to prove just that with their brand new Fun Audit. What is a Fun Audit, you may ask? Well, it’s the end report you’ll get after the Fun Auditor, Stephen, rigorously analyzes your Facebook friends, photos, likes and more all because Trident takes fun seriously. While we may not all work at the Bureau of Fun where there are edible phones, spontaneous jet pack excursions, mid-day bowling, the “deadlines schmeadlines” motto or a uniform that includes floral printed board shorts, we think the results of your Fun Audit…Read more
